Flex Session — Wednesday, April 26, 2017 — 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM — , Room W192B
Endocrinology and Metabolism Section — Chair: David Wright — Co-Chair:
This symposium will highlight the role of diet, exercise and transient increases in body temperature (heat treatment/shock) as novel, non-drug based approaches with which to prevent and treat adipose tissue and liver dysfunction in the context of obesity, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. At the end of this symposia attendees should have an appreciation for; 1) the protective effects of exercise training against metabolic and inflammatory challenges, 2) how exercise and nutritional interventions can be used to treat fatty liver disease and 3) the role of heat treatment as a novel approach to modulate liver and adipose tissue metabolism. The talks in this symposium will highlight recent work using both rodent and clinical models with an emphasis placed on underlying mechanisms.
