It is becoming increasingly recognized that alterations in organelle function, including mitochondrial bioenergetics, endoplasmic reticulum stress, and autophagy, play a critical role in regulating the pulmonary vasculature. Recent evidence suggests that organelle dysfunction contributes to the pathogenesis of both pulmonary hypertension and acute lung injury.
This session will feature one invited speaker, Dr. Michelakis, who is an expert on mitochondrial dysfunction and signaling in pulmonary hypertension, as well as novel targeting strategies to correct these defects. Oral presentations will be selected from submitted abstracts to highlight cutting edge research investigating the mechanisms by which changes in organelle function contribute to pulmonary vascular disease and the potential to develop therapeutics to treat disease.
