Omics approaches to understanding muscle biology

The aim of this symposium is to educate and inform delegates of the principles and latest practices of -omic research applied to skeletal muscle. Omic sciences can be sub-divided based on the level of biological organization/ macromolecule i.e. genomics (DNA), transcriptomics (RNA), proteomics (protein), and metabolomics (metabolite). We have selected speakers to represent each of these sub-disciplines, and skeletal muscle will be our second unifying theme. Major areas of focus in skeletal muscle research include developmental biology, muscular dystrophies, exercise, insulin resistance and atrophy due to disuse, aging or disease. This symposium will highlight the latest research relevant to these areas and, specifically, the talks will highlight new findings in myogenesis, type 2 diabetes, and the response to exercise training.
