Symposium — Monday, April 23, 2024 — 8:30 AM - 10:00 AM — Convention Center, Room 28DE
Publications Committee — Chair: Curt Sigmund — Co-Chair: Rita Scheman
This symposium continues a well-attended series and is directed primarily at graduate students, post-docs and newly appointed faculty, although anyone will be welcome. The symposium aims to provide an overview of the APS Publications Program and ethical issues that are commonly encountered, refreshed annually. The session will cover publications strategies such as selection of the appropriate journal, what constitutes authorship and responding to reviewers. Attendees will be introduced to practical issues about the submission and review process. The symposium will focus in on the most common ethical challenges in research publication, including authorship, plagiarism, data duplication, image manipulation, and use of animals in research. Following the formal presentations, a panel discussion will be held with the speakers, which include two of the Society's Journal Editors-in-Chief.
